The Inspector General Designate In Charge

David was born on 30th April 1949 in Charring Cross Hospital to Joe and Bee Jarvis. His father was an officer in the Metropolitan Police, finally retiring as a Detective Chief Superintendent in Special Branch. His mother was a home maker.

 

David’s father’s occupation led to the family needing to move around and he was educated in seven schools in London, Hampshire, and Middlesex leaving at the age of 15 years.

 

He started working in 1965 for J Sainsbury as a trainee but found it unrewarding and left in 1969. He then found his true vocation in the airline industry, working firstly, briefly, for Pan American Airways and then moving on to BOAC in Cargo, which later became British Airways.

 

BA is a huge company and David worked tirelessly on behalf of the staff via the Transport & General Workers Union where he ended up elected as a National sectional Representative responsible for Birmingham, Belfast, Glasgow, Manchester, Gatwick and London Airports. David retired from BA on 30th September 2009.

 

He married Janet, a Head Teacher, in 1972 and she retired in 2010, David and Janet had three children, who are currently ages 39, 42, and 44. Their daughter Emily is a Detective Chief Inspector in Thames Valley Constabulary and she has two daughters. Their son, Richard finished University with B.A Honours and is a Police Inspector for Thames Valley Constabulary and he has two sons. Their younger daughter, Rachel, finished University with BA Honours and is now a Curriculum Manager at Farnborough Higher Education College and she also has two daughters.

 

Masonic Career

 

The Craft

David was initiated into The Walpole Manor Lodge No 6555 on the 27th November 1971 and raised 28th October 1972. He was Installed as Worshipful Master in 1982.

He became a joining member of The Arnold Lodge No 1981 (Surrey) in 1974 and was Installed Worshipful Master in 1983. David became a founder member of the Khalsa Lodge No 9743. Consecrated 16th October 2001, in the Province of Berkshire. He was appointed, at the Consecration meeting, as Lodge Almoner and was installed as Worshipful Master in November 2013.

 

Honours

David was given the privilege of being appointed to London Grand Rank in 1994 and promoted to Senior London Grand Rank in October 2002.

 

The Province of Surrey in 1991 promoted him to Past Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and was then promoted to Past Provincial Senior Grand Deacon in 1998.

 

The Province of Berkshire, appointed him to Past Provincial Grand Superintendent of Works on 23rd September 2008 and in March 2014 he was appointed Provincial Grand Almoner and invested 23rd September 2014. David was appointed to the Grand Rank of PAGDC in April 2016.

 

The Berkshire Masonic Charity

David was appointed to the Office of Application Secretary for the Berkshire Masonic Charity in October 2007.

 

The Royal Arch

David was Exalted in 1984, into The Gunnersbury Manor Chapter No 5351 in the Province of Middlesex and was installed as MEZ in 1992; he was then inducted as MEZ once again 1996.

He became a joining member of Sindlesham R A Chapter No 8293 in Berkshire in October 2010 and was Inducted to MEZ in 2014, serving for two successive years

 

Honours

In 1995 he was appointed to  Past Provincial Assistant Grand Sojourner and then promoted to Past Provincial Grand Sojourner in October 2000. In 2004 he was promoted to Past Provincial Grand Registrar and in June 2009, promoted to Past Provincial Scribe Nehemiah in Middlesex and appointed PPGSN in Berkshire 2017.

 

The Ancient & Accepted Rite

David was perfected into Rose Croix in 1984 in the District of Wiltshire and Enthroned as Sovereign in 1997. He held the office of Recorder for the Holy Rood Chapter No.855 for many years and was made an Honorary member in 2015.

 

He was a founder of the Arthur Wilkins Chapter No 1083 and Past Sovereign where he was   elected an Honorary member in 2015.

 

He was a founder of Avebury Higher Degree Chapter No.1161 and Enthroned as Sovereign in October 2008.

 

He became a Joining membership of Bombay Rose Croix Chapter No.18 in 2004.

 

In April 2008 David was elected as a joining member of St. Mary and St. Peters Chapter District of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire but he resigned in January 2020.

 

He was proposed as a joining member of Thames & Chilterns Chapter No.1075 in July 2008 in the District of Berkshire, where he was invested as 2nd General in September 2010. This was followed in 2014 by being appointed ADC, then becoming  DC in 2017.

 

David was proposed as a joining member of Donnington Castle No 856 in August 2009 and remains a member.

 

Supreme Council

David was Elected to the 30th degree in 1998 and invited to serve Supreme Council as a Sentinel in 2000/2001. Supreme Council honoured him with the 31st Degree in 2000 and the 32nd Degree on 20th March 2007.

 

He was subsequently invited to serve Supreme Council by supervising the Sentinels and assist the Grand Outer Guard at the monthly Higher Degree meetings, held at Duke Street, for several years. In addition, he also served as Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and Grand Sword Bearer at these meetings from time to time.

 

David was made a Freeman of the City of London in 1993.

 

Life outside of Freemasonry

 

David and Janet own a MOTOR HOME and love to tour Great Britain. In October 2009 they became Grandparents for the first time and now have a total of SIX grandchildren. They also have a Golden Retriever, who is currently 14 months old and ensures they get plenty of excercise!
