Bombay Chapter No 18 - Report : 24th May 2019

 

On Friday 24th May 2019, the Inspector General, V\Ill\Bro. Roy Stone 33°, attended the meeting held at the Berkshire Masonic Centre, Sindlesham.

 

There were some 39 in attendance, including sixteen guests, namely, Ill\Bros. Les Langley 31° (252), Graham Hutton 30 (252), Peter Wood 30 (252), Neil Fallows 30 (252), Jimmy Edmundson 30 (613), Malcom Broster ( Sarum), John Musselwhite 30 (Sarum) and E & P Bros. Howard Martin 18° (252), Bob Britten 18 (MWS 613), Roger Tomlinson 18 ( 613), Richard Morrell 18( MWS 811), John Macneil 18 ( IPMWS 811) Trevor Egleton 18 ( Viaphary), Colin Davis 18 ( Calne), Mark Heppelthwaite 18 ( 856)  & Owen Doe 18 ( 856)

 

The District Recorder, Ill\Bro. Tony Rees 31°, had tendered his apologies for absence, he was attending the Piccadilly Chapter in London where he is the Recorder.

 

Following the opening, the MWS,E & P Bro. Martin Wright 18°, warmly welcomed the IG and visiting Brethren. He offered the IG the Baton of the Chapter, which was graciously declined.

 

Ill\Bro. Ron Stone 31° then delivered a short Eulogy in respect of our dear departed Ill\Bro.Dr.Chris Drew 31°, an Honorary Member who was called to the Grand Chapter Above on 3rd April 2019.

 

The minutes of the meeting held on 1st March 2019, having been circulated to all the members, were confirmed as a true record and signed by the MWS.

 

A ballot was then held in respect of Bros.Shane Hancock and John Savill as Candidates for Perfection, which proved in their favour.

 

There then followed a good Double Perfection Ceremony, by the MWS ably assisted by Ill\Bro.David Jarvis 32°, Reception to the Intermediate Degrees, E & P Bro. Douglas Spencer 18°, the Intermediate Degrees, Ill\Bro. Graham McGowan-Smyth 32°, the First Point and Ill\Bro. David Jarvis 32°, the Second Point, including the Explanation / presentation of the Collar, Signs & Words.

Ill\Bro. Larry Baldry 32°, acted as Marshall and E & P Bro. Terry Barber 18° as a second Raphael.

 

The IG carried out the Accolade.

 

The Treasurer, Ill\Bro. Allan Lines 30°, provided the members with an update report of the financial affairs of the Chapter

There being no other nominations, the MWS then declared the following officers for the ensuing year:

  a) MWS E & P Bro. John Cooley 18°

  b) Treasurer Ill\Bro. Allan Lines 30°

  c) Outer Guard E & P Bro.John Pegler 18°

  d) The incoming Marshall & Raphael to serve on the Standing Committee.

  e) Ill\Bro. David Jarvis 32° as representative to the BMC

  f) Ill\Bros David Jarvis 32° and E & P Bro. Martin Wright 18°, as Account Examiners.

 

Items d, e & f , were all proposed by the Recorder, Ill\Bro. John Machray 30°, seconded by Ill\Bro. Rev’d Michael Seymour-Jones 31° and carried by the members.

 

Pursuant to Notice of Motion, Ill\Bro. David Jarvis 32° proposed the following Charity donations, seconded by Ill\Bro. Rev’d Michael Seymour-Jones 31° and carried by the members.

  a) £1000.00 to the RWPGM 2023 Festival appeal

  b) £500.00 to the Mobile Prostate Cancer Unit

  c) £250.00 to the Parkinson’s Charity

 

The Almoner, E & P Bro. John Ferguson 18°, submitted his report, which included an update on Ill\Bro. Mike Bain 30°, following which the Alms were collected.

 

On the Risings, the Recorder delivered an appraisal of all correspondence received from Supreme Council and the District Recorder.

 

The Third Point was conducted by the Ill\Bro.Rev’d Michael Seymour-Jones 31°, following which the Chapter was closed by the MWS.

 

The evening was concluded with yet another excellent meal, enjoyed in the most convivial atmosphere, where the usual Toasts were honoured.
