Donnington Castle Chapter No 856 - Report: 13th June 2018
On Wednesday 13th June 2018, the Inspector General attended the meeting held at the Masonic Centre, London Road, Newbury. There were 35 in attendance, including six guests, namely Ill\Bros. David Arnold31°,( 536) Lindsay Maskell 30°, ( MWS 811) and E & P Bros. Steve Lyford 18°, ( MWS 567) Richard Peatman 18°,(536), Ted Lewis 18°, ( 1165) and Clive Blackburn 18°,(1165), who were all warmly welcomed by the MWS, E & P Bro. Roy Parker 18°. Regrettably the District Recorder, Ill\Bro. Tony Rees 31°, was unable to attend due to a prior commitment.
Ill\Bros. Lionel Voke 30°, acted as Second General, David Jessett 31°, as Captain of the Guard and Ill\Bro. Steve Berkshire 30°, as Recorder, as Ill\Bro. Stephen Ellner 30°, was unavoidably absent.
Ill\Bro. Bill Rhymes 31° proposed the minutes of the meeting held on 9th May 2018, be confirmed as a true record. This was seconded by Ill\Bro. Kevin Dodd 30° and carried by the members.
The Inspector General presented a Supreme Council certificate to E & P Bro. Steve Ricks 18°
A ballot was held in respect of Bro. John Stephen MacGregor as a Candidate for Perfection, proposed by Ill\Bro. David Reeves 30° and seconded by E & P Bro. Steve Ricks 18°. The ballot proved in favour of the Candidate.
Bro. John MacGregor, was then Perfected into the Order, in a first class ceremony, performed by the MWS, E & P Bro. Roy Parker 18°, most ably assisted by Ill\Bro. Bill Rhymes 31°, Reception to the Intermediate Degrees, Il\Bro. David Jarvis 32°, the Intermediate Degrees, Ill\Bro. Kevin Dodd 30°, the First Point, Ill\Bro.George Kirk 30°, the Second Point and E & P Bro. Mike Warner 18°, the Explanation of the Collar, Signs and Words.
The Inspector General carried out the Accolade.
The following Officers were then elected for the ensuing year:
a) MWS E & P Bro. Mike Warner 18°
b) Treasurer Ill\Bro. Paul Wilding 30°
c) Outer Guard E & P Bro. John Pegler 18°
d) Account Examiners Ill\Bros. Bill Rhymes 31°, John Gilbert 30°.
e) Two Members to the GP Committee. New Raphael & Marshall
Items d & e were proposed by Ill\Bro. Steve Berkshire 30°, seconded by Ill\Bro. Kevin Dodd 30° and carried by the Members.
A brief report was issued on behalf of the Almoner, who was unavoidable absent, following which the Alms were collected.
On the Risings, the Recorder delivered an appraisal of all correspondence received since the last meeting.
The Inspector General congratulated Ill\Bro. Paul Wilding 30°, who was attending for the first time in his new regalia following his promotion, which was greeted with generous applause by the Brethren.
Ill\Bro. Steve Berkshire 30°, proposed on behalf of Ill\Bro. David Reeves 30°, Bro. Owen Doe of the Reading Lodge of Union No 414, as a Candidate for Perfection. This was seconded by Ill\Bro. David Jarvis 32°.
The Third Point was conducted by the Inspector General, V\Ill\Bro. Roy Stone 33°, following which the MWS closed the Chapter.
The evening was concluded with yet another excellent meal at the Old Mill Hotel, enjoyed in the most convivial atmosphere, where the usual Toasts were honoured.
