Donnington Castle Chapter No 856 - Report: 9th May
On Wednesday 9th May 2018, the Inspector General attended the meeting held at the Masonic Centre, London Road,Newbury. There were 43 in attendance, including numerous guests. Amongst the guests were: Ill\Bros. Tony Lewis 31°(613), Lionel Higgins 30° (117), David Arnold 30° (613), Vince Spiller 30° (567), E & P Bros. Philip Mott 18° (MWS 548), Steve Lyford 18° (567), John Newman 18°(117), Martin Cole 18° (613), Bob Britten 18° (613), Ted Lewis 18° (1165), Andrew Taylor 18° (1165), and Roger Tomlinson 18° (613), who were all warmly welcomed by the MWS, E & P Bro. Roy Parker 18°. Regrettably the District Recorder, Ill\Bro. Tony Rees 31°, was unable to attend due to an urgent family problem in Southampton.
Ill\Bro. Ken Hayton 32°, acted as First General, Ill\Bro. Lionel Voke 30°, acted as Second General and Ill\Bro. David Jarvis 32°, acted as Director of Ceremonies.
Ill\Bro. Bill Rhymes 31° proposed the minutes of the meeting held on 9th August 2017, be confirmed as a true record. This was seconded by Ill\Bro. Lionel Voke 30° and carried by the members.
The Inspector General presented a Supreme Council certificate to E & P Bro.Michael Knight 18°
The MWS invested the following Officers, who was unavoidably absent at the Enthronement meeting
Marshall E & P Bro. John Kirkpatrick 18°
ADC Ill\Bro. David Jarvis 32°
Steward E & P Bro. Peter Sullivan 18°.
A ballot was held in respect of Bro. Michael Leeke as a Candidate for Perfection, proposed by E & P Bro. John Kirkpatrick 18° and seconded by Ill\Bro. Stephen Ellner 30°. The ballot proved in favour of the Candidate.
Bro. Michael Leeke, was then Perfected into the Order, in an fine ceremony, performed by the MWS, E & P Bro. Roy Parker 18°, most ably assisted by Ill\Bro. Bill Rhymes 31°, Reception to the Intermediate Degrees, Ill\Bro. Steve Berkshire 30°, the Intermediate Degrees, Ill\Bro. Alasdair Milne 32°, the First Point and Ill\Bro. Ken Hayton 32° the Explanation of the Collar, Signs and Words.
The Inspector General carried out the Accolade.
Pursuant to the notice of motion, Ill\Bro. Ken Hayton 32°, proposed the sum of £500 be donated to the Rosemary Trust. This was seconded by Ill\Bro. Steve Berkshire 30° and carried by the members.
The Almoner presented his report, following which the Alms were collected.
On the Risings, the Recorder delivered an appraisal of all correspondence received since the last meeting. This sadly included notice of three resignations, Ill\Bro. Nigel Jarvis 30° and E & P Bros. Pat Leonard 18° and Chris Jamieson 18°, all for personal reasons.
The Third Point was conducted by Ill\Bro. George Kirk 30°, following which the MWS closed the Chapter.
The evening was concluded with yet another excellent meal at the Old Mill Hotel, enjoyed in the most convivial atmosphere, where the usual Toasts were honoured.
